Taapsee Pannu Reveals That Actors Declined to Work With Her in Films Because of Less ‘Heroic’ Roles

One of the finest actresses of the film industry, Taapsee Pannu shares her experience of working with male actors in films where she has a longer screen presence.

There have been various debates about how inequality in terms of pay and pairing in films has always been a part of the industry.

Of late, women-led films are doing considerably well which shows that things are changing for the better. And with actresses like Taapsee Pannu starring in films that feature her at the lead and delivers the finest performances, things are only hoping to change for the good.

Apart from films, the actress never minces her words when it comes to talking about the pressing issues that need to be addressed in the film industry- inequal pay, amid others.

In an interview, Taapsee also shared that many male actors, who had done fewer films than her, had refused to be cast opposite her as they felt their role was not “heroic” enough in the film.

Citing the examples of other A-listed Bollywood actresses and the inequality that somewhere still brews in the industry, Taapsee went on to share in an interview with ETimes, “It’s tedious to find actors to be a part of a film where the actress might have 10-20 per cent more screen time. There have been times when actors, who have done lesser films than me, refused to co-star claiming there was nothing ‘heroic’ about their part.”

She further went on to add, “Not just me, Deepika Padukone, who has worked with such big names, had to work with a fabulous actor like Vikrant Massey in ‘Chhapaak’, Kangana Ranaut paired up with Jassie Gill for ‘Panga’, Alia Bhatt with Vicky Kaushal in ‘Raazi’, Vidya Balan with Manav Kaul for ‘Tumhari Sulu’. You see the pattern? Actresses never do that.”
